The Government of Mexico inaugurated the third and final section of the Interurban Train, a project that began more than 10 years ago in the government of Enrique Peña Nieto.

It only took 12 years: The Interurban Train, a project initiated by Enrique Peña Nieto, was finally completed by President Claudia Sheinbaum who inaugurated the last section that connects with the Observatorio terminal.

“Today is a very good day because we finally inaugurated the entire route of the Toluca-Mexico City Train. Not only is it a train that moves from Toluca to Mexico City, but it is also a completely different vision of recovering public space and integrating popular areas into first-world transport,” he said in his ‘mañanera’ on Monday, February 2.

Which stations of the Interurban Train were inaugurated TODAY?

The route of the ‘El Insurgente’ Train was completed with the openings of the Vasco de Quiroga stations and the Observatorio terminal, which connects with Line 1 of the Mexico City Metro.

The railway line also connects with Line 3 of the Cable bus at the Vasco de Quiroga station; in addition, a subsequent integration with Line 12 of the Metro, the Observatorio modal transfer center and station (Cetram), and the Poniente Bus Terminal is planned.

The ‘El Insurgente’ Train has a total infrastructure of 57.7 kilometers with seven stations, 20 trains of 100 meters in length for 719 passengers and with universal accessibility, explained Andrés Lajous, head of the Agency of Trains and Integrated Public Transport (ATTRAPI).

According to the Government, it is estimated that around 140 thousand people will use the Toluca-Mexico City Train route per day.
