Movimiento Ciudadano legislators: Sergio Torres is in delicate but stable condition; Elizabeth Montoya lost an eye after the attack in Sinaloa.

The national leader of Movimiento Ciudadano (MC) reported that the surgery on Torres was successful, but a full diagnosis of his health is still pending.

The national leader of Movimiento Ciudadano (MC), Jorge Álvarez Maynez, reported that Sinaloa state deputies Sergio Torres Félix and Elizabeth Montoya remain hospitalized following the attack they suffered as they left the state Congress.

In Torres Félix’s case, the national leader indicated that he is in delicate but stable condition, while doctors wait for the swelling from his head injuries to subside before making a definitive diagnosis.

“Both are currently hospitalized in serious condition. (…) We have been informed that both have undergone surgical procedures. In the case of Sergio Torres, the surgery was successful, and he is currently in a delicate but stable condition.”

“As you know, when injuries are to the head, to the brain, a period of 48 hours is required to issue a diagnosis, to allow the swelling to subside, and for the doctors to be certain of the patient’s condition,” stated Jorge Álvarez Maynez during a plenary meeting of the party.

Regarding Representative Elizabeth Montoya, Álvarez Maynez said that she lost an eye and sustained brain injuries, but stated that her life is not in danger at the moment.

The two companions, the driver and bodyguard, who were also injured in the attack, are alive. The national leader highlighted the collaboration between state health authorities, the Sinaloa government, and federal security officials working to assist the legislators.

In this regard, Maynez noted that the National Intelligence Center and the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC), through Secretary Omar García Harfuch, are maintaining a progress report with MC regarding the investigations into the case.

The Victim Assistance Mechanism will also be in contact with the families of those affected, according to Maynez, who also stated that his party will work to strengthen the National Pacification Strategy and will not politicize this tragedy.
