A truck loaded with explosives detonated in front of the community police station in Coahuayana, causing deaths, injuries, and severe damage to infrastructure.

COAHUAYANA, MICHOACÁN – On Saturday, December 6th, a vehicle loaded with explosives exploded in front of the community police station in this municipality on the Michoacán coast, resulting in at least two deaths and seven injuries, according to official reports.

The explosion occurred minutes before noon outside the municipal building, at the community police headquarters, causing destruction to vehicles, homes, businesses, and even damaging the Community Hospital.

Community police commanders accused the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) of carrying out the attack, as part of a series of aggressions the criminal organization has been perpetrating in the region.

Emergency protocols were activated following the explosion. Helicopters from the Mexican Navy (Semar) and the state government transported the wounded to larger hospitals. State and federal security forces deployed an operation to secure the area and locate those responsible.

The attack occurred in a municipality historically plagued by criminal groups, where clashes, extortion, and drug-related violence have been reported recently.

Authorities in Michoacán reported that the investigation has already been launched by the State Attorney General’s Office, the National Guard, the Navy, and the Army, who are working together to determine the cause of the explosion and apprehend those responsible.

Residents of the area expressed fear and alarm at the escalating violence and called for increased security and protection in vulnerable communities. Leaders of local self-defense groups demanded a greater state presence, citing delays in providing assistance to the population following previous attacks.

With this attack, Michoacán adds another episode of extreme violence that impacts collective security, community trust, and the urgent need to strengthen state strategies for pacification and citizen protection.
