The long arm of the law stretched across borders to finally snatch up a suspect in a cold homicide case dating back to 2021.
Uatesoni Joseph Paasi, a 31-year-old San José resident, was arrested on November 22 in Rosarito, Mexico.
The arrest came after a joint operation between the San José Police Department (SJPD), the U.S. Marshals Service Pacific Southwest Regional Fugitive Task Force, and Mexican authorities.
According to the San José Police Department, the suspect was involved in a fatal shooting on June 4, 2021, over a parking space dispute, where a man was shot and killed in front of his family.
Chief Paul Joseph of the SJPD issued a stern warning to those attempting to evade justice.
“If you want to play hide and seek, know that we will find you, no matter what country you cower in,” he stated.
The task to relentlessly pursue Paasi was persistent, with the detective team doggedly chasing down leads across years and borders.
On Tuesday, December 2nd, the hard work paid off as detectives extradited Paasi to the United States, where he was booked into Santa Clara County Main Jail on charges of murder.
