PALIZADA, Campeche — Authorities in Campeche are intensifying security measures following a recent violent incident that has shaken the community of Palizada. The case, involving a local educator and councilwoman, has drawn national attention and renewed calls for stronger protections for public officials and citizens alike.

According to official reports, the attack occurred earlier this week, prompting immediate investigations by state and federal agencies. The victim, known for her work in education and community service, was also active in local politics. Her death has sparked widespread condemnation from civic organizations and political leaders, who emphasized the urgent need to address violence in rural municipalities.

The Secretary of Public Security confirmed that patrols and surveillance have been reinforced in Palizada and surrounding areas. Meanwhile, residents have organized vigils to honor the victim’s contributions to education and public life.

The attack against Karina Díaz Hernández, who was the Morena party’s candidate for mayor of Palizada in the 2024 elections, occurred when a group of armed men on a motorcycle fired at her car, which then crashed into a wall.

According to the Campeche State Attorney General’s Office (FGE), Karina Aurora Díaz Hernández was taken to the General Hospital in the municipality of Palizada, where agents from the State Investigation Agency arrived to take a report on the incident.
