The Hill of Christ the King Shines as Ixtlán prepares for one of its most important festivals.

The festivity of the Hill of Christ the King in Ixtlán del Río, Nayarit, is a deeply spiritual celebration held annually around late October. It honors the monumental statue of Christ the King, inaugurated in 1949 atop a hill overlooking the town. Pilgrims ascend the 544-step path, marked with wooden crosses, to reach the summit, where religious ceremonies, prayers, and community gatherings take place.

The event blends faith, tradition, and local pride, attracting thousands of visitors. It coincides with preparations for Día de Muertos, creating a vibrant atmosphere of devotion and cultural expression.

With a citizen cleanup campaign on the Hill of Christ the King, municipal authorities and residents of Ixtlán del Río began preparations for the novena to Christ the King, one of the municipality’s oldest and most emblematic religious celebrations.

Starting early Sunday morning, President Guillermo Ramírez, trustees, council members, and volunteers joined in the cleaning and maintenance efforts on the hill, aiming to keep it in optimal condition for the beginning of the novena this Friday, October 17.

The festivities of Christ the King, which culminate on the last Sunday of October, bring together hundreds of faithful and visitors each year for pilgrimages, masses, and cultural activities that strengthen the identity and devotion of Ixtlán del Río.
