Mérida is preparing to celebrate one of its most beloved culinary traditions as the Feria del Mucbipollo returns on Sunday, October 26, 2025, in the historic Parque de San Sebastián. The event, now in its eighth edition, is part of the larger Festival de las Ánimas, which honors Yucatán’s ancestral customs during the Hanal Pixán season.

From 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., visitors will have the chance to taste the iconic mucbipollo, a traditional Yucatecan dish made of corn dough, chicken, and pork, wrapped in banana leaves and cooked underground in a pit oven known as a pib. The dish is central to Day of the Dead celebrations in the region and symbolizes the connection between the living and the departed.

This year’s fair will feature 16 local exhibitors and welcome guest participants from the municipalities of Ticul, Halachó, and Ucú, each bringing their own variations of the mucbipollo. Organizers, including Patricia López Herrera, emphasized the importance of preserving culinary heritage while also offering innovative takes on the classic recipe.

In addition to food, the fair will include cultural performances, artisan markets, and family-friendly activities, making it a vibrant space for both locals and tourists to experience Yucatán’s rich traditions.

The Feria del Mucbipollo has grown in popularity each year, drawing thousands of attendees eager to savor authentic flavors and celebrate community. As part of the Festival de las Ánimas, it serves as a flavorful tribute to Yucatán’s spiritual and gastronomic identity.
