According to Tiempo.com.mx, the criminal groups “La Barredora,” led by Hernán Bermúdez, and the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) operated together to control territory in Tabasco and nearby states.

Classified documents from the Ministry of National Defense (Sedena) exposed by Guacamaya Leaks in 2022, which reveal the full story of “La Barredora’s” rise in Tabasco, indicate that Bermúdez Requena’s group strengthened an alliance with the CJNG after the disappearance of “Los Zetas.”

The newspaper El Universal reports that after the death or capture of the leaders of “Los Zetas” in Tabasco, during Enrique Peña Nieto’s administration, family members and close associates took control of criminal enterprises: migrant smuggling, extortion, fuel theft, Pemex robberies, and drug trafficking.

Allegedly, Hernán Bermúdez, alias “Commander H,” as Secretary of Security, met with the drug trafficking leaders to negotiate, but they ultimately surrendered.

These drug trafficking leaders, heirs to “Los Zetas,” operated as an arm of the CJNG (CJNG), to whom “Commander H” assigned commissions and tasks.

El Universal cites, as an example, that Bermúdez allowed Benjamín Mollinedo Montiel, alias El Pantera, to operate in the municipalities of Huimanguillo, Cárdenas, and Centro, specifically near him in Villahermosa.

The crimes carried out by “El Pantera’s” criminal structure included the trafficking of migrants from Guatemala and Chiapas to Veracruz and Tamaulipas, as well as the trafficking of marijuana and cocaine from Central America.

He also commanded Miguel Ángel Martínez, alias “Lanchero,” the main partner of Elder Rodríguez Torres, known as Hormiga, who was responsible for corrupting military personnel at the port of Dos Bocas, in the municipality of Paraíso, to steal fuel directly from Petróleos Mexicanos (Pemex) ships.

The third area of criminal control was led by Juan José de la Cruz Sánchez, alias JJ, who was allegedly “anointed” as a plaza boss in the communities of Jalapa, Tacotalpa, part of Tequila, Tapijulapa, Oxolotán, San Juan, San Román, and Los Chipilinares; later, he was given complete control of Macuspana.
