In the San Miguel de Allende municipality, an armed attack was reported on Sunday, August 17th, leaving a preliminary toll of two dead and 17 wounded.

Initial reports indicate that a gunman attacked people celebrating a patron saint festival near the Infonavit Malanquín neighborhood. Other reports indicate that at least two individuals were involved.

What is the report from the authorities in San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato?

The Government of San Miguel de Allende, through the Secretariat of Citizen Security, confirmed the death of two people and the wounding of 17 following the attack that occurred on the night of August 17 in the Infonavit Malanquín neighborhood.

According to the Secretariat of Citizen Security, the injured were taken to different hospitals in the city, where they are receiving medical attention and, later on Monday, August 18th, could be assessed for possible discharge.

Following the report to the 911 Emergency System, Municipal Police officers responded to the scene to secure the area and notify the Guanajuato State Attorney General’s Office (FGE), which has already initiated the corresponding investigations.

The municipal government regretted and condemned the violent events, which it described as a cowardly act against the population.

At the same time, it reiterated its commitment to strengthening security throughout the territory and to working closely with the ministerial authorities to clarify the case.
