Willy Ochoa, former candidate for governor of Chiapas, launched a direct accusation against Rutilio Escandón, a member of Morena, currently the Mexican consul in Miami and brother-in-law of Adán Augusto López, for allegedly allowing the operation of the criminal group “La Barredora” in Chiapas territory during his administration.
According to Ochoa, this criminal organization, linked to the former Secretary of Security of Tabasco, Hernán Bermúdez, operated with impunity in municipalities in the north and east of the state, especially in areas bordering Tabasco, such as Ixtapangajoya, in 2019.
Ochoa maintains that the Escandón administration engaged in omission or complicity, which facilitated the expansion of the criminal group, accused of activities such as fuel theft, drug trafficking, extortion, and human trafficking. These accusations are based, in part, on recent news reports and documents from the so-called “Guacamaya Leaks,” which reveal the infiltration of “La Barredora” in Chiapas, taking advantage of an alleged power vacuum.
The Chiapas politician called on the Attorney General’s Office and the Federal Government to thoroughly investigate the institutional protection network that, according to him, allowed this group to operate in the state. He emphasized that official silence regarding these events cannot go unpunished and demanded that those responsible be determined.
