During a working visit to Mexico City, Governor Joaquín Díaz Mena met with the Japanese Ambassador to Mexico, Kozo Honsei, and representatives of the Japanese Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Mexico A.C.
Governor Joaquín Díaz Mena met with the Japanese Ambassador to Mexico, Kozo Honsei, and representatives of the Japanese Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Mexico A.C.to strengthen bilateral cooperation and present the strategy to position Yucatán as one of the most important investment destinations in Mexico and Latin America.
At the meeting, held at the Japanese Chamber of Commerce in Mexico City, the Yucatecan president presented the components of his government project, known as the Mayan Renaissance. This project includes regional development projects that will encourage any country or company in the world, especially those from Japan, to consider Yucatána favorable location for investment.
“Therefore, we are modernizing the Deepwater Port in Progreso, with a deeper draft and new terminals; an 80-hectare platform; the extension of the Mayan Train from Umán to Progreso; a Metropolitan Ring Road that will serve as Mérida’s second ring road; as well as Wellness Hubs with natural gas supplies, so that industry views Yucatán as a viable option for establishing itself,” he explained.
The Governor added that these actions are complemented by the push his administration is providing to ensure that more young people access higher technological education through the new universities being built in the state, such as Rosario Castellanos University in Kanasín and the University of the Sea in Progreso.
“We are aligning our programs with the relevance demanded by the market, so that our graduates have the profile any company may need. It is an honor for us to have this opportunity for you to dedicate your time and attention to presenting Yucatán’s projects,” he stated.
During his speech, the Japanese Ambassador to Mexico, Kozo Honsei, expressed his pleasure at receiving the Governor and his delegation and recalled that the exchange and strengthening of ties between the state government and the Asian country began last May during a visit by various diplomats, including the Mexican Secretary of Foreign Affairs, Juan Ramón de la Fuente.
“Upon returning from that visit, I conveyed your message to the members of the Japan Chamber of Commerce in Mexico, and it was immediately decided to organize this type of meeting. It’s an opportunity we must take advantage of to learn more about your state and the opportunities it offers for the future. Not only the Port of Progreso, but also the tourist sites, and the possibility of increasing the export of various products. We are ready to exchange ideas today,” the diplomat stated.
For his part, Takaaki Kuga, president of the Japan Chamber of Commerce in Mexico and President of Toyota Motor de México, emphasized that the meeting represented an excellent opportunity to inform the 542 members of this business organization—which has a presence in different states of the country and is organized into 16 committees that bring together various Japanese industries and companies—about the projects promoted in Yucatán.
“I want you to know that we are here to welcome you with open arms, and we also want to hear about the opportunities available and establish a very constructive dialogue between you and us,” he concluded.
