In Guaymas, Sonora, President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo inaugurated the Vícam Switch Community Hospital, benefiting more than 50,000 people from the eight Yaqui Indigenous communities.
Sheinbaum affirmed that the motto of the governments of the Fourth Transformation of public life in Mexico is a reality: “for the good of all, the poor first.”
“Today is a day of celebration because we are all together at the formal inauguration of this great Vícam Community Hospital. This facility has the most specialized, state-of-the-art equipment, which can only be found in a few places in the world. I am telling you, this Hospital is a reality for the people of Sonora.”
The president stated that “this hospital, which will benefit the Yaqui people, demonstrates the great difference between the governments of the past and the governments of the Fourth Transformation, which stand for social justice for Indigenous peoples, justice for women, as well as the construction of a true justice system”.
“The Fourth Transformation has one word: justice. And now it’s also reflected in these Justice Plans we’re implementing, which we’re continuing for all the Indigenous peoples of our country,” he added.
This hospital had an investment of more than 700 million pesos, and will benefit nearly 50,000 people from the eight Yaqui communities in the region. It will have 14 consulting rooms, two operating rooms, and two emergency rooms, with 30 inpatient beds and six neonatal intensive care beds.
Despite Sheinbaum’s speech in Sonora, health workers, doctors, and nurses across Mexico are complaining about the lack of medicines, equipment, and medical supplies in public hospitals and clinics all over the country.
