Three crew members were arrested, allegedly linked to the transportation of the shipment.

The Secretariat of the Navy (SEMAR), through the Mexican Navy acting as the Coast Guard, seized a shipment of approximately 3.5 tons of suspected cocaine being transported on a semi-submersible vessel in the waters of the state of Guerrero.

According to the federal Security Cabinet, this seizure represents an estimated economic impact of 846.5 million pesos for drug trafficking organizations, as well as the prevention of the circulation of at least 7.2 million doses on the black market.

The authority stated that the operation was carried out during a maritime patrol aimed at maintaining the rule of law in Mexican marine zones. During the deployment, Navy surface units located a low-profile vessel with three crew members on board and 180 sack-like bundles containing white powder with characteristics similar to cocaine.

The operation was carried out in coordination with the Attorney General’s Office (FGR), the Ministry of National Defense (Sedena), the National Guard (GN), and the Ministry of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC).

The cargo and the vessel were seized, while the three crew members were handed over to the Federal Public Prosecutor’s Office, which will determine their legal status and compile the corresponding investigation files.

With this seizure, more than 44.8 tons of cocaine have now been seized at sea during the current administration, headed by President Claudia Sheinbaum.

Semar emphasized that these actions are part of a comprehensive aerial, land, and maritime surveillance strategy aimed at inhibiting criminal activities on the Mexican coast.
