In a harrowing incident on June 11, 2025, a 33-year-old Mexican national named Jesús González lost his left arm while attempting to flee from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents in La Mirada, California.
González, a welder originally from Veracruz, was reportedly returning home from work when he encountered ICE agents near a 7-Eleven store. Fearing arrest due to his undocumented status, he fled on foot. In the chaos, he ran onto nearby train tracks and was struck by an oncoming train.
According to González, the ICE agents who had been pursuing him did not assist after the accident. Instead, it was local residents who came to his aid and called emergency services. He was rushed to the hospital, where doctors performed two surgeries to save his life, ultimately amputating his arm at the shoulder. A third surgery may still be required.
The incident has sparked outrage among immigrant rights advocates, who are calling for an investigation into ICE’s conduct and the broader implications of aggressive immigration enforcement tactics. González’s family has launched a fundraising campaign to support his recovery and future medical needs, as he remains hospitalized and in critical emotional and physical condition.
