Ricardo Benjamín Salinas Pliego is a Mexican businessman, founder and chairman of Grupo Salinas, a corporate conglomerate with interests in telecommunications, media, financial services, and retail. He is widely known in Mexico as the owner of TV Azteca Television Network, as well as other businesses such as Grupo Electra retail stores and Banco Azteca.
Ricardo Salinas recently declared on social networks what the government of Claudia Sheinbaum wants to achieve with the controversial Telecommunications Reform. This is what the businessman wrote on X.com:
I learned from reliable sources that just a few days ago, all the Morena scammers responsible for spreading lies on social media were given the guideline from those in power to start sowing and broadcating the idea in the collective imagination that Sheinbaum’s Telecommunications Initiative, (better know on social networks as #CensorshipLaw), will NOT be applied to good people on social media, but that “TV Azteca’s license must be returned to Mexicans” because we are rich and evil. Along with this information, I have noticed a considerable increase in bot attacks from the AMLOVE Network, as well as fake accounts from Mexico, Venezuela, Russia, and Cuba, targeting my profile.
The strategy to try to silence my voice is as follows (it was leaked to me from within their ranks):
Morena will make the “Pueblo Bueno y Sabio” (good and wise people) believe that a television commercial was broadcast on TV Azteca, which violates national sovereignty. They were told that mentioning the word “national sovereignty” is key.
They will introduce a seemingly monstrous law of total censorship for all media outlets.
After widely disseminating it and scaring people with it, they will say they are going to revise it, because in their narrative, they supposedly always listen to the opinions of the Mexican people.
They will hire bots, give information to the companies that work spreading lies, and to their “independent journalists” who dedicate themselves to amplifying lies on social media, and will tell them that they have to spread the idea and ask their followers whether the government should return the TV Azteca signal to the people. They will not mention any other television station so much (although we did NOT broadcast the supposed anti-migrant spot).
In the end, they will back down on almost the entire proposal, saying they listened to the people and that they are not repressive, but they will say that the people want the television licenses to be revoked.
They will try in every “creative” way to tarnish the reputation of the television station owners. Just as they fabricated a supposed debt to the SAT against me, which they rarely have been able to collect, they will fabricate other sins against others to justify their attempted theft, and claim that only the shitty leftists and their children, who are good and pure, should be allowed to keep the telecommunications licenses (obviously without paying one cent).
They will try to steal our assets from us, protected by the “will of the people,” and hand over the television, internet, and telephone licenses to their children, friends, and loyal supporters through front men, to get rid of the only critical voice they have been unable to silence.
It should be noted that the licenses are NOT granted freely in exchange for nothing. NO! In reality, these are licenses, not concessions, that we bought from the government for more than 4 billion pesos and that don’t expire until 2042. So, they could only try to deprive us of them through theft.
