A 12-year-old girl, identified as Dana Sofía, died after being shot while riding in a vehicle in Culiacán, Sinaloa.
The incident occurred around 4:00 p.m. on Monday, March 24, when gunshots were reported on Agricultores Boulevard.
According to local media outlets such as Noroeste and Debate, a Toyota Camry vehicle, in which the minor was traveling with at least two adults, was shot while traveling in the Sinaloa capital.
After being hit by gunfire, the car headed to the Rehabilitation and Specialties Clinic on Francisco I. Madero Boulevard. There, the occupants of the car removed the still-alive girl, Dana Sofía, from the vehicle, but she later died while receiving medical attention.
The car remained on the avenue and had flat tires, bullet holes in the windows and body, and blood stains on the rear end. Officers from various agencies arrived at the scene to secure the area and begin investigations.
So far, authorities have not specified whether it was a direct assault or if the vehicle was caught in the middle of a confrontation. Only the State Attorney General’s Office registered the case as one of the three intentional homicides that occurred this Monday in the state.
In a statement, the Sinaloa government condemned the murder of the minor and assured that it will not go unpunished.
