On Tuesday, February 11th, the Anti-Corruption Commission of the Congress of Nuevo León declared the request to initiate an impeachment trial against Governor Samuel García for his alleged interference in last year’s elections as admissible. At Unotv.com we explain what he is accused of and what follows in this process.

What is Governor Samuel García accused of and why will there be an impeachment trial against him?

In the request, presented to the legislators of Nuevo León, Samuel García is accused of “improper use of public resources, as well as attacking the exercise of suffrage of the citizens of Nuevo León by violating the principles of impartiality, neutrality and equity that should govern the 2024 electoral contest.”

Lorena de la Garza, local deputy and president of the Anti-Corruption Commission, published a video on social networks to explain in detail the process against the governor.

“What did the governor do? He used all the state resources that were at his disposal to promote the candidacy of Álvarez Máynez, including the raffle of the famous Cybertruck,” said the legislator.

The local deputy also added that “he held official press conferences, from the Government Palace to campaign. He diverted public resources, and used his social networks and social networks to benefit Movimiento Ciudadano, the candidate from Monterrey, Mariana Rodríguez.”

What’s next in the impeachment against Samuel García?

After the impeachment request proceeded, Governor Samuel García is summoned, this meant that he had a period of five days to appear before the state Congress to appear. He also has the option of responding to the legislators in writing.

The next step is a vote in the Nuevo León Congress to define whether the impeachment process continues to advance, for this, at least 28 deputies must vote in favor of the process.

If the vote is passed to allow the trial to continue, the High Court of Justice will be in charge of determining the sanction to be imposed against Samuel García, which ranges from a warning to dismissal or disqualification.
