A wagon carrying materials from the Maya Train derailed south of Bacalar, Quintana Roo.
A cargo unit that was transporting material for construction of the Maya Train derailed, causing concern among workers and residents of the area, since it was in the same area where the Maya Train runs.
The events occurred when it was heading to the Bacalar station, when it lost stability and overturned, according to information from local media cited by PolÃtico Mx.
According to reports, one person was injured and was taken to a health center for treatment, but there is still no official information.
The incident occurred during the early hours of Wednesday, January 29th, but it was not until after 5 p.m. that this news began to circulate.
The wagon, which was transporting several tons of ballast (material used for the construction of railroads), overturned on its left side after leaving the tracks.
Local media reported that the train was traveling at a moderate speed at the time of the derailment, so it is speculated that the weight of the transported material may have influenced the incident.
A crane and personnel from the Tren Maya arrived at the scene of the accident to carry out recovery work and put the car back on the tracks. Although the presence of rescue teams and specialized personnel could be observed, neither the directors of the Tren Maya nor the Secretariat of National Defense (Sedena), in charge of the project’s works, have issued an official statement about what happened.
It was reported that several injured people were taken to the hospital, however, this fact has not been confirmed.
Lack of official information
So far, state and federal authorities have not commented on the incident.
Likewise, the health status of the allegedly injured people has not been confirmed, and details about the exact causes of the derailment have not been released.
