Mexico ranks as the most dangerous country in the world without war.
The 2024 Conflict Index of the global initiative Armed Conflict Data and Location (ACLED), revealed that Mexico, without being at war, is the most dangerous and violent country in the world.
Although the statistic places Palestine at number one of the most violent and dangerous countries, followed by Myanmar and Syria, it highlights that in Mexico there is no declared war as such.
However, the ACLED initiative does register “a civil war of cartels” and points out that the Mexican government has power, but does not control the territory.
ACLED, or Armed Conflict Location and Event Data, is an independent, non-profit organization that collects, analyzes, and maps data on violent conflict and protests around the world:
- Data collection: ACLED collects information on the dates, locations, actors, fatalities, and types of all reported political violence and protest events.
Data analysis: ACLED analyzes the data to ensure its reliability, accuracy, relevance, and completeness. Crisis mapping: ACLED uses the data to create crisis maps.
ACLED’s data is available for public use. The organization uses several processes to ensure the quality of its data.
