Federal security authorities arrested Omar Félix Loaiza, alias “El Pelón”, an alleged leader of the criminal group “La Chapiza”, a faction of the Sinaloa Cartel.

According to federal sources, Loaiza would be responsible for commanding the offensive against the faction of “La Mayiza” in the dispute that exists within the CDS after the capture of Ismael “El Mayo” Zambada, allegedly orchestrated by the sons of ‘El Chapo’ Guzmán. The fact that has caused a wave of violence in Sinaloa land.

The arrest took place in the Las Quintas neighborhood of Culiacán, Sinaloa, after a joint operation by the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC), the Secretariat of National Defense (Sedena), the Secretariat of the Navy (Semar), the Attorney General’s Office (FGR), and the National Guard (GN).

“El Pelón”, 44 years old, was considered one of the main generators of violence in the northwest of the country, particularly in the states of Sinaloa, Sonora, and Baja California. He is charged with various crimes, including organized crime, human trafficking, arms trafficking, and drug trafficking.

In addition, federal authorities link him to the production and marketing of fentanyl destined for the United States, specifically to the state of Arizona.

According to reports, Félix Loaiza operated from the northeast of Sonora, an area in which, since July 2022, he allegedly maintained an alliance with Eric Jesús Cabrera Cabrera, alias “El Duranguillo,” leader of the “Los Deltas” group. They faced the rival faction “Los Cazadores-Los Salazar” for control of trafficking routes in the Altar-Sásabe region, Sonora.

Authorities have information that “El 8” used advanced technology for criminal activities, such as the use of drones loaded with explosives.

It is believed that the leader of “La Chapiza” took refuge in Sinaloa after an alleged murder attempt against him in the Sonora area, which coincided with the beginning of the conflict between the factions of the Sinaloa Cartel.

Following his arrest, Omar Félix Loaiza will be placed at the disposal of the FGR, which will carry out the corresponding process to determine his legal situation, compile an investigation file, and present him before a federal judge.
