According to the Cuba Herald, the government of President Claudia Sheinbaum is in the process of finalizing a significant interest-free line of credit, which could reach up to 20 billion US dollars, destined for Cuba.
The main objective of this ambitious plan is to provide economic relief to the Cuban regime, which is facing a deep energy crisis after the loss of 90% of its electricity generation capacity, according to sources close to the Mexican Foreign Ministry.
The credit, which would be “on the word,” that is, without requiring traditional guarantees, aims to offer an immediate solution to the island’s weakened energy infrastructure.
The energy shortage in Cuba has seriously affected its economy, causing constant interruptions in the electricity supply that have impacted both the population and key industrial sectors.
The Cuban regime has been looking for alternatives to recover its electricity generation and distribution capacity, and Mexico’s support is seen as an opportunity to begin that process.
