Abelina Lopez, the mayor of Acapulco is facing harsh criticism for her poor performance as Municipal President of this important port and tourism pole in Guerrero.
Not only was her first three-year term a tragedy for the insecurity and violence that got out of control in Acapulco, but now in her second three-year term, Abelina López has surpassed the levels of incompetence, incapacity, and cynicism, as she has slipped away from any responsibility for the serious problems that the people of Acapulco are experiencing, the same in the devastation of two hurricanes in less than a year, the deterioration of municipal public services, but above all in the situation of violence and insecurity that the people of Acapulco continue to suffer.
If reporters ask her about the burning of vans, taxis, a restaurant in the tourist area or the burning of the municipal market, Abelina tells them: “I don’t talk about that, I’m not the Attorney General’s Office, ok? Ask the Attorney General.”
When she was questioned about the “intelligence cells” that the federal government had announced it would send to Acapulco, Abelina answered again: “I am not a prosecutor, we have to wait to see what the Attorney General’s Office says and what it throws out.”
And if the reporter insists and asks her why she cleaned up the areas where there are fires or attacks by organized crime before the Attorney General’s Office investigated, thus altering a crime scene, Abelina completely loses control:
“You want a dirty city, is that what you are betting on Acapulco? What are you betting on exactly?”
