Spain rejects invitation to Sheinbaum’s inauguration

The Government of Spain rejected Claudia Sheinbaum’s invitation to her inauguration on October 1, for excluding King Felipe VI.

It stated that “the exclusion of His Majesty the King from the invitation to the inauguration of the elected president of Mexico is unacceptable,” so no representative will be sent to the event.

In a statement sent to EFE, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation, states that “the Government of Spain considers unacceptable the exclusion of His Majesty the King from the invitation to the inauguration of the president-elect of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, on October 1 in Mexico City.”

Thus, the government of Spain also communicated that it would not send any representatives.

Spain categorically rejects the exclusion of the King from Claudia Sheinbaum’s inauguration

Mexico’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs sent diplomatic notes to all the countries with which Mexico has relations, except Ecuador and Peru.
