With this decision, the entire PJF is suspended from work in protest against the ruling on judicial reform.

With eight votes in favor and three against, the ministers of the Plenary of the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation (SCJN) decided, in a private session, to join the strike of workers of the Judicial Branch of the Federation (PJF) in protest of the judicial reform initiative.

The three votes against were from the ministers Yasmín Esquivel Mossa, Lenia Batres Guadarrama and Loretta Ortiz Ahlf, who are currently meeting to set their position, according to sources within the SCJN.

On the other hand, the votes of the ministers in favor of the strike were those of the president of the Court, Norma Piña Hernández, Jorge Mario Pardo Rebolledo, Ana Margarita Ríos Farjat, Juan Luis González Alcántara Carrancá, Alfredo Gutiérrez Ortíz Mena, Alberto Pérez Dayán, Javier Laynez Potisek and Luis María Aguilar Morales.

On Monday, September 2nd, the Supreme Court’s workforce voted to join the strike of workers of the Judicial Branch, positioning itself against the judicial reform initiative of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, which proposes that ministers, judges and magistrates be elected by popular vote.

With this determination, the entire PJF is suspended from work in protest against the ruling of the judicial reform, which could begin its discussion this Tuesday, August 3.

Since August 21, more than 1,200 federal judges and magistrates of the Judicial Branch went on strike with the same slogan of opposing the judicial reform. Workers and hundreds of students from law schools and faculties have also joined the protests.
