On Monday, August 26, Claudia Sheinbaum, president-elect, introduced Víctor Rodríguez as the new head of Pemex.

At a press conference, she highlighted Rodríguez’s career in the energy area and said he was honored by the position.

Rodríguez will be the successor of Octavio Romero, the current director of the institution.

Rodríguez Padilla is a specialist in energy issues and has been an advisor to Sheinbaum Pardo on the matter, so the president-elect follows the path of technical profiles to lead Pemex and the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE), where she appointed Emilia Esther Calleja Alor.

The new federal government is also expected to promote a constitutional reform to convert Pemex and CFE from productive companies to “public companies,” and thus integrate them into the structure of the Ministry of Energy, where Luz Elena González will seek to reduce operating costs and clean up the finances of these emblematic companies of the Mexican State.
