Macuspana is a city in the Mexican state of Tabasco, head of the municipality with the same name, belonging to the Usumacinta region and the Pantanos subregion. It is located 45 km east of the city of Villahermosa on the left bank of the Puxcatán River, at the foot of the mountain range.

Macuspana is obviously famous for being the hometown of President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, but in the last three weeks, the name of this municipality has made the headlines as the scene of horrible crimes.

Violence shook Villa San Carlos in the municipality of Macuspana, Tabasco, when an attack on a speakeasy left a preliminary toll of six dead and nine injured.

The incident occurred at the “De Luci” bar, where three people arrived on motorcycles, entered the premises and began attacking customers.

This violent incident joins other recent ones in Macuspana. Just on Sunday, June 16, three men, including a 16-year-old minor, were executed and beheaded in this municipality.

Their headless bodies were abandoned in front of a kindergarten with a sign allegedly signed by the Jalisco New Generation Cartel.

Also on June 16, two men were shot to death on the federal highway that goes from the municipality of Cárdenas to Huimanguillo near the El Dorado ejido, also in the municipality of Macuspana.

The first reports indicate that the victims are two men, who had gunshot wounds to the back of the head and had their hands tied.
