On Wednesday, May 15, 21 bodies were found located in a clandestine grave in Abasolo, which represents the largest discovery of human remains made in 2024 in all of Mexico.
The finding was made by searching women of the Independent Search Brigade “Hasta Encontrarte” (Until I find you).
Karla Martínez, leader of the Independent Search Brigade, said on Sunday, May 12th, that her brigade was not the one who made the discovery; however, they did keep an eye on the bodies that have been extracted and then provide help to families looking for their relatives.
On Saturday, May 11, 18 bodies had already been counted in the state of bones, without it being possible to determine whether these corresponded to men or women.
On Wednesday, May 15, this figure was updated and now 21 bodies have been located in this clandestine grave, which represents the largest discovery of human remains made in 2024 and the largest in the community of Abasolo. It is believed that some of these bodies could have been hidden underground for years.
The leader of the Independent Search Brigade mentioned that, although the bodies do not have particular signs due to the state in which they were found, some clues to their possible identification are found in the clothing that was also found.
However, they pointed out that they couldn’t keep a photographic record since the area was occupied from the beginning by staff or the State Attorney General’s Office.
Therefore, the group “Hasta Encontrarte” provided an investigation folder number, 52904/2024, so that people who have missing relatives can go to request information about the clothes and thus look for matches with those worn by the people they are looking for.
