The air terminal expects to close in 2023 serving 1.6 million passengers

With an average flight occupancy of 80%, the Querétaro International Airport (AIQ) estimates to close 2023 serving 1.6 million passengers.

The Secretary of Sustainable Development, Marco Antonio del Prete Tercero, reported that as of September the air terminal reported the movement of 1.3 million people, and the expectation is that during October-December around 300 thousand more users will join.

“It goes well. Regarding occupancy percentages, it continues to increase; The airlines on average handle between 75% to 80% average (occupancy),” said the state official.

The above, also highlighting the new offer of international destinations planned for the month of December in the AIQ, with the Houston-San Antonio route, through the VivaAerobus airline.

Likewise, he shared that for the first quarter of 2024, two new routes will be added to the United States, specifically to Detroit, in the month of January, and to Atlanta, scheduled to start next March.

From Part Three he commented that, with the current movement at the Querétaro International Airport, “we have already surpassed the pre-pandemic historical maximum, which was almost 1.2 million passengers, and for September we are already at 1.3 million passengers.”

The head of Sustainable Development in the entity finally mentioned that the opening of more flights and greater influx of passengers commits the air complex to finish the expansion work carried out in the last passenger waiting room, works that to date report an advance of between 35% and 40%.

The director of the Querétaro International Airport, Jorge Gutiérrez, recalled that on October 1, the terminal accumulated, throughout its almost 19 years of life, the first 10 million passengers transported.

He recalled that the airport began operations on November 28, 2004, and half of the 10 million passengers were reached on December 31, 2018.

The first international flight that took off from Querétaro was to the state of Texas, in the American Union, on March 17, 2005, just four months after its operations began, in November 2004.

In the AIQ, he said, the airlines operate: Aeroméxico, Volaris, United, American Airlines, Viva Aerobus and TAR.

The main national destinations are Monterrey, Cancún, Mexico City, Tijuana and Guadalajara.
