The Cenote Azul is located in the Riviera Maya, at the eastern end of the Yucatan Peninsula, on federal highway 307 Cancún-Tulum, at kilometer 266, 25 km south of Playa del Carmen, that is, at about 20 minutes from this town.

How did the foreigner die in the Cenote Azul in Playa del Carmen?

The events occurred last Saturday, September 16, when an American, in the company of other people, was enjoying the waters of the Cenote Azul.

It was around noon when the man, after being inside the cenote, came out to dive; However, when he gained momentum and crossed the waters, his head would have collided with a stone.

A preliminary report indicates that the strong impact of the foreigner’s head with the rock caused him to lose consciousness, which prevented him from swimming out.

Upon realizing what happened, the people who were there asked for help from those in charge of the Cenote Azul, who carried out maneuvers to remove it from the waters.

However, the American made a fatal dive, since when the foreigner was outside, they realized that he had already lost his life due to drowning, after swallowing a lot of water, since fainting prevented him from reacting after the blow.

At the same time, those present reported the incident to the emergency number 911.

Paramedics from a private organization arrived at the scene and performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation maneuvers in an effort to save him. However, their attempts were in vain because they confirmed the death of the foreigner.

Personnel from the Attorney General’s Office of the State of Quintana Roo carried out the removal of the body and subsequently transferred it to the Forensic Medical Service, where they will await the procedures of the relatives to hand over the body. With information from Milenio.
