First cruise to Huatulco left an economic spill of more than 3 million pesos

With the arrival of the first cruise ship of the 2023-2024 season on the beaches of Bahías de Huatulco, there was an estimated economic benefit of 3 million 122 thousand pesos, reported the Oaxaca State Secretary of Tourism (Sectur). 

The agency explained that the Emerald Princess, coming from Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, with a total of 2,904 passengers and 1,154 crew members, arrived in Santa Cruz Huatulco and had a nine-hour stay, so good results are contemplated for this new cruise period. 

He indicated that in the 2022-2023 season, the arrival of 36 ships was registered at the port of Santa Cruz Huatulco with a total of 62,857 passengers, a fact that left an economic benefit of 69 million pesos and placed Oaxaca in eighth place nationwide in the reception of cruise ships. 

Likewise, the agency indicated that from September 2022 to May 2023, six more cruises were activated than the previous season with 26,791 more passengers. 

He stressed that work is being done to strengthen tourist activity in the Coastal region, which has led to the reactivation of the ships that arrive at the Huatulco Bays to contribute to the economic development of the population. 

The connectivity of cruise ships in Huatulco generates a positive impact with a tourist influx of 17.9 percent and contributes 48 percent of the economic income that this destination receives.
