The governor of Puebla, Sergio Salomón Céspedes Peregrina, reported that there were no more interested parties in the purchase of the Puebla-Cholula tourist train, so sales negotiations with the Secretary of the Navy (Semar) are advancing, which would incorporate the machinery into the Interoceanic Corridor of the Isthmus of Tehuantepec.
At a press conference, Céspedes Peregrina reported that there is already a letter of intent from Semar to finalize the sale of the tourist train:
“On the subject of the Tourist Train, the truth is that there is no great market, nor positions for it, I am glad that we have been able to have this opportunity, it is a great area of opportunity for the developments that are being made of trains in the Southeast and well, there is a letter of intent from the Navy, they have already been transferred for final evaluations,” he said.
In any case, the state executive pointed out that the train will be transferred to the Institute of Administration and Appraisals of National Assets (Indaabin), to determine the sale value, while the railways are from a federal concession.
According to Céspedes Peregrina, the resources obtained from the sale of the Tourist Train will be used to meet the needs of the regional hospitals that the state has.
At the end of last July, the governor of Puebla said that the tourist train was not economically sustainable, which had been stopped since January 2022, whose cost was 1,364 million pesos and that its operation since 2016 did not generate income to maintain itself.
