During Holy Week, 19 people, including tourists from Mexico City and Guanajuato, were murdered in various violent events in Acapulco; on average, 3 crimes a day in that port of Guerrero.
The murders occurred between April 3 and 9, mainly in the traditional and golden areas of Acapulco, which in turn were the ones that registered the highest hotel occupancy in this vacation period.
On April 3, an armed attack in the vicinity of Caleta Beach left four people murdered, including a minor under 17 years of age and a tourist from Mexico City.
On the night of April 5, armed groups clashed in Xaltianguis, during the events two men from the community of Las Ventanas, municipality of San Miguel Totolapan, who were displaced in the rural area of Acapulco, were murdered.
In addition, a 15-year-old adolescent was injured in that confrontation and, although she was taken to the El Quemado General Hospital, she died the following day.
On April 6, a family of tourists from Guanajuato was attacked with bullets in the Fraccionamiento Las Playas, while they were having dinner in a place in the area. The balance was a man killed and three more people injured, including two minors.
Meanwhile, on April 7, an armed attack on a mechanical workshop located in the Fraccionamiento Granjas del Marqués left two men murdered.
To these facts is added the discovery of three corpses in different events in the Vicente Guerrero neighborhood and in Ciudad Renacimiento; the victims are three men, who were shot to death, hanged and had traces of torture.
On Good Friday, a group of tourists from Mexico City was also attacked with bullets as they were leaving a barbershop, in the “Luis Donaldo Colosio” Housing Unit, resulting in two men being killed and one woman injured.
Last Thursday, a man was also shot inside a barbershop in the Progreso neighborhood, for which he was taken to the El Quemado General Hospital where he died.
Also on April 5, a man was shot to death in the town of San Agustín and the dismembered body of a subject was found by fishermen in the vicinity of Alfredo V. Bonfil beach.
The day before, a taxi driver was shot to death in the Emiliano Zapata neighborhood.
The murders occurred amid the deployment of elements of the Municipal Police, Tourist Police, Guerrero Police, National Guard, and Army, to guarantee security during the vacation period.
State authorities acknowledge the presence of two criminal groups: “Los Rusos” and the Cártel Independiente de Acapulco (CIDA), who are in a dispute over control of drug trafficking in the tourist port.
