National Margarita Day, an annual made-up holiday, was celebrated last Wednesday, February 22nd, and restaurants all over Mexico offered special deals and promotions to celebrate the popular cocktail.
This day honors the Margarita – one of the most popular cocktails featuring tequila. Although tequila is made in Mexico, it is a fine spirit that is enjoyed all over the world for its smooth finish and notes of sweet, earthy agave.
National Margarita Day is on Feb. 22 and the holiday celebrates the classic cocktail that contains, triple sec, tequila, and lime juice. According to Smithsonian, the margarita was created in 1938 cocktail by Carlos “Danny” Herrera
A traditional margarita consists of tequila, orange liqueur, and lime juice often served with salt on the rim of the glass. Tequila, the cocktail’s primary base, is among the five fastest-growing spirits categories in the U.S., according to the industry group Distilled Spirits Council of the United States.
