These “super wells” produce 196 barrels per kilogram per square centimeter, compared to the 14 that the reservoir currently produces.

According to the general director of Petróleos Mexicanos ( PEMEX ), Octavio Romero Oropeza, Tabasco has “super wells” in its Tupilco field.

So-called because they are 13 times better than those considered good wells, “super wells” produce 196 barrels per kilogram per square centimeter, compared to the 14 that a reservoir regularly reaches.

In the words of the manager, “a good well is considered to be one that produces 14 barrels per kilogram per square centimeter, that is a good well, here the Tupilco wells are at 196 barrels per kilogram per square centimeter, more than 10 times what it is considered to be a good well.”

Not enough with the 196 barrels, it is estimated that the Tupilco field located in the municipality of Comacalco has a potential of more than 200 million barrels of oil, for which Romero Oropeza announced that they are already working on a deeper exploratory well, the which could increase reserves even more.

In this sense, data from the National Hydrocarbons Commission (CNH) revealed that, during December, the Tupilco Profundo field reported a production of 38,200 barrels per day, which places it in the eighth national position as an oil producer.

“In just six months, since the CNH approved its Transition Program, the Tupilco Profundo field is already the eighth largest oil producer nationwide, with only three wells,”
