Criminals confronted uniformed officers and fired shots into the air.

On social networks, they reported a confrontation between the alleged criminals and uniformed men. In addition, as they passed, the Montonetos fired shots into the air, burned cars and caused damage to at least two government buildings: the Municipal Presidency and the Palace of Justice.

Elements of the inter-institutional group made up of the Secretary of National Defense (Sedena), the National Guard (GN), the Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection (SSyPC) and the Municipal Police implemented an operation to restore order in San Cristóbal de Las Casas, derived from the acts of vandalism carried out by a group of demonstrators in the facilities of the Municipal Presidency and the Palace of Justice, achieving the arrest of 10 males and the seizure of four motorcycles.

According to local media reports, more than two hundred elements of the State and Municipal Police, the National Guard and the National Army were deployed on the San Cristóbal-Tuxtla-Gutiérrez and San Cristóbal-Teopisca roads after being alerted about a possible road blockade by of followers of Pablo “N”, leader of the Motonetos.

It is worth mentioning that on November 2, the Chiapas State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) announced that Pablo “N” was linked to the process for his alleged responsibility in the crime of aggravated homicide.

The murder for which the criminal leader is accused occurred on February 3, 2021, the day he would have shot Mateo “N” , who died from the impact of the bullet.

A control judge ordered preventive detention against him, as well as a term of three months for the complementary investigation.

It should be noted that this is not the first time that the Motonetos have generated disturbances in this municipality. On June 14 of this year they staged shootings and drug blockades in San Cristóbal de las Casas .

The armed confrontation began inside Mercado Norte , a commercial establishment that is known as a point of sale for stolen cars, illicit substances and weapons . The situation caused terror among people who were shopping inside the store.

After the shooting, at least 40 armed people, dressed in black and with their faces covered, blocked several streets with trucks and fired into the air.

Mariano Díaz Ochoa, mayor of San Cristóbal de las Casas, reported that the violent events were the product of a dispute between criminal groups seeking control of a private market.

Presumably a criminal group tried to seize power over the Mercado Norte area from Los Motonetos , which led to an armed confrontation.

The Motonetos are known in the city of Chiapas for selling illegal merchandise as well as for firing shots into the air from the surrounding hills, which have affected multiple residents who have received stray bullets.

According to what Díaz Ochoa revealed, the intervention of the municipal authorities has been insufficient to control the criminals. “The only thing we can do is put order,” he assured in an interview with Azucena Uresti.

On the other hand, Chiapas is also besieged by gangs associated with the Sinaloa Cartel . On October 10 alone, 13 people fell in possession of firearms, magazines and cartridges.

Six days after their arrest, the alleged members of Los Valdovinos , an organization in turn linked to the Sinaloa Cartel, were linked to the process. They were accused of stockpiling firearms, possession of cartridges and chargers for the exclusive use of the authorities, and criminal association.

The Valdovinos operate mainly in the town of Jiquipilas. The cartel to which it is associated by the authorities is in dispute with the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) in Chiapas territory.
