AMLO criticizes the US for Travel Alerts after violence and asks for respect for sovereignty

After Travel Alerts for violence, López Obrador asked the US Government to respect the sovereignty of our country in matters of security.

Andrés Manuel López Obrador, president of Mexico, called on the United States Government to issue Travel Alerts to the country due to the increase in violence in recent weeks.

In the morning conference held in Tijuana, Baja California, López Obrador asked the government headed by Joe Biden to respect the sovereignty of our country in terms of security.

“There it is, homicides, do you believe that violence can be faced with violence, that evil can be faced with evil? No, evil has to be faced by doing good, fire cannot be put out with fire, and I understand and respect the American authorities very much,” she said.

Of course I love the American people very much, they are exemplary, they have built a great nation, but we are different, they are different conceptions. That is why we are independent countries and that is why we must respect our sovereignties”, he referred.

The Mexican president lashed out at the Travel Alerts issued in recent days by the US Government, of which he pointed out that they were carried away by the propaganda carried out in Mexico.

“It is interesting, there are acts of vandalism with a propaganda tint, without a doubt, in Baja California, they make a national scandal, propaganda, also in the media, they even found out abroad, in the United States,” he launched.

How many unfortunate acts of violence occur in the United States, assaults, shootings, did we find out? Do we send notices and warnings to Mexicans not to travel to the United States, to certain states? No, ”he declared.

The United States ambassador to Mexico, Ken Salazar, warned citizens of his country on Wednesday to avoid traveling to the Mexican states of Colima, Guerrero, Michoacán, Sinaloa, Tamaulipas, and Zacatecas due to the “security situations” that are experienced in those regions.

“There are six states to which the State Department asks US citizens to avoid traveling: Colima, Guerrero, Michoacán, Sinaloa, Tamaulipas and Zacatecas,” Salazar said in a brief statement.

He explained that the security situations presented by these entities “highlight the importance” of the Bicentennial Framework between Mexico and the United States, in which both nations committed to improving security and better-protecting people.

These statements come just a few days after various violent events occurred in the country in states such as Baja California, Sonora, Chihuahua, Michoacán, Jalisco, and Guanajuato, which, according to some counts in the national press, among on Wednesday the 10th and Friday the 12th of August, 260 murders were accumulated in Mexico.
