Authorities capture the alleged murderer of Erika Sánchez in Oaxaca, she was murdered in 2019

Guillermo Jorge López Montiel, the alleged femicide of Erika Sánchez Basaldúa, a hotel worker murdered in Playa del Carmen in June 2019, was arrested on Wednesday, June 2nd in the city of Oaxaca.

Agents of the State Investigation Agency, belonging to the Attorney General of the State of Oaxaca (FGEO), managed to capture him when López Montiel was walking along the streets of the state capital.

The arrest was carried out in coordination with the Quintana Roo Prosecutor’s Office, after an arrest record was issued against him, based on what was stated in the criminal case number 330/2019, dated June 15, 2019.

On June 15, 2019, three years ago, Guillermo Jorge López Montiel allegedly attacked Erika Sánchez with a knife, causing her death in Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo.

The Oaxaca Prosecutor’s Office will supervise the transfer of the probable femicide, first, the suspect will be presented to the corresponding judicial authority, who will determine her legal situation.

Relatives had offered a reward after the alleged murderer had been on the run since 2019.
