Enjoy the Hot Springs of Tequisquiapan, Queretaro (VIDEO)


The name of this Magical Town, which in Nahuatl means “place of waters and tequesquites”, alludes to the traditional hot springs of Querétaro. However, this destination is full of surprises, and the best thing is that it is only two hours from Mexico City. Admire its colonial architecture by walking its quiet and cobbled streets.

Walk through Plaza Miguel Hidalgo, the main square of Tequisquiapan, located in front of the Temple of Santa María de la Asunción and surrounded by stone arches, under which you will find galleries, cafes, sweets, silver, furniture, and handicrafts shops. Take the tourist tram here and learn about the history of the town center.

Tequisquiapan is a territory of hot springs.
Tequisquiapan was founded in 1551 and its name, of Nahuatl origin, means "place on the Tequesquite River", due to the trees that grow along the Tequisquiapan River, which a little further north is known as Moctezuma and feeds the Zimapán dam.
Located in a region with a temperate and semi-dry climate, Tequisquiapan is a beautiful and quiet municipal seat, ideal for resting.

Cheese and Wine Fair, more than twenty years old, this festivity stands out for bringing together the most important wine and cheese producers in the country.
Fiesta de la Santa Cruz, takes place every year on May 3 in the Barrio de San Juan.
Fiesta en el Aire, in the month of December this festival is held with hot air balloons and Cantoya balloons.
Foundation of Tequisquiapan, will be celebrated on June 24.
Feast of Santa María de la Asunción, will be celebrated on August 15.


The territory of the municipality of Tequisquiapan is located in the northern part. It borders to the North with the municipalities of Colón and Ezequiel Montes, to the South with the municipality of San Juan del Río and to the East with the municipality of Ezequiel Montes and the State of Hidalgo.
