Víctor Hugo Roldán, head of the State Unit for Civil Protection and Firefighters Jalisco (UEPCBJ) reported that the fire did not consume the entire market.

After the fire that occurred this Thursday morning in the San Juan de Dios Market, Víctor Hugo Roldán, head of the Jalisco State Civil Protection and Fire Department (UEPCBJ), reported that the damage to the property was limited to the southern area.

“Work is being done to review the premises that were within the affected area comprised by the southern zone, the premises near Javier Mina street between Cabañas and Calzada Independencia. There is no total impact on the market, this is important for the rest of the tenants”.

Since 2:30 a.m., Guadalajara firefighters and other corporations in the metropolitan area worked to put out the fire, whose origin would have been the food area, according to a preliminary report from Civil Protection and Firefighters.

The Municipal Police of Guadalajara deployed an operation in the market and its surroundings to prevent acts of robbery. In addition, together with the road and state police, they made traffic cuts on Javier Mina avenue to allow the work of firefighters.

Finally, the mayor of Guadalajara, Pablo Lemus, assured that the tenants will receive financial support once the situation of the property is assessed since it is not yet known how much the damage amounts to.
