In the Huasteca Potosina, very close to the El Aguacate Waterfall, there is an ecotourism center. Learn about its activities and services.
The Huasteca Potosina is a paradise of natural wonders. Among many, there is a veil of water 70 meters high: the El Aguacate waterfall, the second largest in the state of San Luis Potosí (the first is Tamul, 105 meters high).
Nearby, an ecotourism center was opened that takes its name from the waterfall. It has a cabin, camping area, restaurant and organizes activities to explore some attractions of the region.
We spoke with Luis Manuel Méndez Herrera, one of the founders of the Cascada El Aguacate ecotourism center so that he could explain to us about the experience of being in this part of the Huasteca.
Aguacate is located in the municipality of Tamasopo, an hour and a half from Ciudad Valles. Luis Manuel describes it as a pristine landscape, dotted with ahuehuete trees, rock formations and abundant vegetation. “And, if you look at the sky, you will witness a show of huahuas (parrots) that fly over the area.
To reach the end of the waterfall and let yourself be soaked by its breeze, you will have to go down a circuit of four stairs; they are around 168 steps Then you will walk over a wooden bridge, which serves as a viewpoint so you can observe the magnificence of El Aguacate and listen to its roar.
Sunny days let you see the rainbows that form around the fall. The water that feeds it comes from two springs in Tamasopo, which is why it is so cold, explains Luis Manuel. But the heat allows you to enjoy this one.
