Woman shot in Oaxaca Reforma neighborhood restaurant attempted robbery

Oaxaca de Juárez.— This Tuesday night a young woman was attacked with a firearm in the parking lot of a restaurant in the Reforma neighborhood, north of the city of Oaxaca, for which reason the Oaxaca Public Security Secretariat ( SSPO) deployed a strong operation to find the alleged perpetrator.

The 22-year-old victim survived the armed attack and was transferred in a private vehicle to receive emergency medical attention; her health status is unknown.

The attack was notified through the 9-1-1 Emergency Service, where it was reported that on Nezahualcóyotl street at the corner of Eucaliptos, a woman had been injured by a firearm projectile.

According to the police report, the probable culprit was a man, who wore a black cap, camouflaged green sweatshirt and black shoes.

After the attack on the young woman, State Police personnel attached to the Oaxaca Public Security Secretariat (SSPO), deployed a security device in
order to find the alleged perpetrator.

Personnel from the State Investigation Agency (AEI) also arrived at the site, who carried out the corresponding procedures. “The police corporations maintain security and dissuasive actions in the area and surroundings,” the Oaxaca government reported in a statement.

According to the hemerographic monitoring of the Documentation Center of the “Rosario Castellanos” Group of Studies on Women (GESMujer), based on the main newspapers of Oaxaca, printed and digital, from December 1, 2016 – November 9 or whatever of this administration, 574 cases of murdered women have been registered.

Just last November 21, a man murdered a 25-year-old girl inside a bar called “El Hábito”, a few steps from the Santo Domingo de Guzmán Temple, in the streets of the Historic Center of the Oaxacan capital.

The victim was identified as Yazmín, 25, who was hit by a bullet when drunken men entered the parking lot and unleashed a shootout.

Like her, from December 1, 2016 to November 9, 574 violent murders of women had been registered in Oaxaca, according to the hemerographic monitoring of the Documentation Center of the “Rosario Castellanos” Group of Studies on Women (GESMujer).
Of that total, 79 had been killed during 2021, up to that date.
