The governor of Nuevo León, Jaime Rodriguez Calderón confirmed that the incident at one of Protexa’s plants, in Santa Catarina, is under control. 4 people have first and second degree burns, and two firefighters suffered heatstroke.
Monterrey, Nuevo Leon. The Protexa company regretted the death of two people and four injured, due to the fire in one of its plants in Santa Catarina.
Four people who were injured were transferred to an IMSS clinic, where until now they have been reported out of danger.
“Company personnel are in contact with them and providing support to their families,” said Sergio Charles, director of Strategic Relations and Communication.
Preliminary data collected by the company’s Security area points to an instrumentation failure in a storage tank, which led to a sudden overpressure causing the incident.
The emissions that were observed during the fire have already been smothered.
The incident began around 2:15 p.m. on Wednesday, August 11th, and was controlled at 4:15 p.m. in coordination with the authorities.
As a preventive measure, the company evacuated all its staff in plants and offices and coordinated with the authorities to do the same in the surrounding areas.
For his part, the governor of Nuevo León, Jaime Rodríguez Calderón reported on his social networks that the incident is under control.
“Unfortunately they confirm to me that four employees are injured with first and second-degree burns; and two firefighters have been treated for heatstroke, who are stable in the place,” said the governor.
