The marine foam appeared on the beach of Coatzacoalcos, Veracruz; the Environmental Attorney’s Office conducts an investigation to find out its origin.

On the beaches of Coatzacoalcos, Veracruz, a layer of foam appeared that reached the sand, for which they had to be closed, reported the state’s Attorney for the Environment.

According to local media, the appearance of the foam occurred on July 16 on the beach of Coatzacoalcos, near the Petroquímica neighborhood.

Municipal Civil Protection personnel traveled just over a kilometer of beach at the Plaza de las Culturas between the Puerto México, Petroquímica and Playa Sol colonies, in the southern oil municipality of Veracruz.

Given the ignorance of the origin of the phenomenon that mobilized various state and federal agencies, water samples were taken.

The foam did not have any unpleasant odors, neither of chemicals or detergents.

The presence of foam on some of the beaches along the Coatzacoalcos coastline became a tourist attraction, as dozens of people came to take pictures with it.

The Environmental Attorney’s Office began the investigation of this strange phenomenon to find out its origin, cause and composition.

Some people jokingly commented on social media that the foam could have an extraterrestrial origin.

Why does sea foam appear?

Sea foam is a phenomenon that occurs suddenly in beach areas around the world.

This foam can have different causes. In some cases it is algae that bloom and whose cells disintegrate, releasing a material that, when moved by the wind and waves, acquires a shape similar to foam.

Seafoam can be enhanced by the temperature of the water, the amount of algae, and the winds or storms that move the water and generate more foam.
