Kim had a cancerous tumour removed from the left temple in November 2019. He had radiation therapy following, in Fort Collins, Colorado. A few months ago he started having headaches – unusual for him. He checked in with his Oncologist in Mazatlan and CT scans were done. The initial were negative, but with the headaches persisting, another was done on June 4, 2021. The Oncologist in Mazatlan felt radiation would be required and because it is not available in Mazatlan, the decision was made to have Kim fly to Colorado where he had familiarity with the system, and family and friends eager to provide support for him and Heather.

  • In order to support Kim & Heather’s Medical Expenses, we are raising ~$250,000 to cover the out of pocket medical expenses related to his treatment.

On June 21, 2021 Kim delivered his CT scan films to the UC Cancer Center. Within a few hours he was back for an initial assessment by the medical team. They reviewed the scans that came from Mazatlan. A preliminary plan was initiated.

June 22, 2021 Kim had an MR of head and neck. This confirmed the CT diagnosis of a golf-ball size tumour that is growing into the area behind the left eye. There is also some involvement of one of the bones that make up the orbit of the eye (sphenoid bone).

June 25, 2021 PET Scans from head to thigh were done. The PET scan of the head and neck confirmed the findings from the CT and MR scans, as well as showing uptake in a lymph node along the top of the parotid gland (salivary gland in front of the ear). The radiologist presumes this to be metastatic. The other PET scans were clear.

Heather flew from Mazatlan on Thurs. June 24, 2021 to be with Kim. They are fortunate to be able to stay with Kim’s brother Kurt and his wife, Kim (Sam) who live very close to the Cancer Center. A housesitter is currently looking after their menagerie at the beach. Further arrangements will need to be made in the coming days…we’re working on that!

Kim and Heather are very appreciative of the good thoughts, prayers and expressions of care and concern that are coming their way.
