In an ordinary meeting of heritage cities, it was agreed to manage support to reinforce the protection, conservation, and recovery of these spaces.
In the framework of the first ordinary assembly of the National Association of Mexican Cities of World Heritage AC, the authorities of the cities integrated into the body, including San Luis Potosí, agreed to join efforts to manage economic, public and private, national and international support, which will be allocated for works and actions that conserve, preserve, improve, disseminate and maintain the cities that in Mexico have been declared by UNESCO as Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
At the event held this Friday in the city of Guanajuato, they agreed to strengthen the protection, conservation, restoration, and recovery of the nation’s cultural heritage, under the terms of the Federal Law on Monuments and Archaeological, Artistic and Historical Zones and the General Law of National Assets.
They also considered it a priority to preserve the values of the intangible heritage, the art of indigenous communities in all the original manifestations of their own languages, the uses, and customs, crafts, and traditions of the multicultural composition that make up the country.
They endorsed supporting the organization’s work, which consists of three fundamental axes: cultural diffusion; tourism promotion; and the management of resources for the improvement of infrastructure and equipment of the Mexican World Heritage Cities, such as signage, location of monuments, lighting, the rescue of squares and gardens, participation in national and international tourism fairs.
The participants highlighted that Mexico is the fourth country in a number of cities declared by UNESCO as world heritage, only behind Spain, Italy, and France. A quarter of the cities considered world heritage in the American continent are in our country, making us the number one country in America, which implies a great responsibility to humanity and great pride for Mexicans.
The French Embassy in Mexico and the Association of Historic French Cities participated in the event; the General Directorate of Cultural Heritage Sites and Monuments of the Ministry of Culture, as well as the INAH World Heritage Directorate and the governments of the cities of San Luis Potosí, Guanajuato, Campeche, Mexico City, Morelia, Oaxaca, Puebla, Querétaro, San Miguel de Allende, Xochimilco, Zacatecas, San Juan del Río and Durango.
