Who was affected the most by the Covid-19 second wave in Mexico?

It has been a year since the first confirmed case of covid-19 in Mexico, since then,  the authorities  have compiled statistics on the disease and that includes, for example, at what age groups has hit the second wave of the pandemic , data that we present to you next

The Secretary of Health, Jorge Alcocer Varela, indicated that this second wave is distinguished from the first because a different distribution of infections has occurred.

“There is a percentage, not like in the previous one, in which basically it affected populations over 50 years of age and also, in some states, a greater number of women than men, “he indicated. In this second wave, coronavirus cases nationwide have been divided between 50 percent women and 50 percent men.

While the median age where more cases are located is 43 years.

Those most affected by the pandemic The age groups that register the highest confirmed cases of coronavirus are the following,  according to the March 1 cutoff of the Ministry of Health ( Ssa ):

With 11 percent of cases nationwide per group:

  • From 30 to 34 years old.
  • From 35 to 39 years old.

With 10 percent of cases in Mexico per group:

  • From  25 to 29 years old. 
  • From 40 to 44 years old.
  • From 45 to 49 years old.

Other groups include:

  • From 50 to 54 years, 9 percent of cases.
  • From 55 to 59 years, 8 percent.
  • From 20 to 24 years, 7 percent. 

In addition, Alcocer Varela indicated that, in the last three weeks, the downward trend in the number of cases has been maintained, reaching a reduction of 13 percent. He also indicated that there are 45 thousand 682 active cases and 583 thousand 896 complete vaccination schemes against covid-19 have been applied.
