ONTARIO CANADA. Ford Says He’s Scrapping 14-Day Quarantine For Travelers With Or Without Trudeau

“If they don’t want to do it, then we’ll go at it alone.”

Travelers coming into Ontario could soon see a different set of rules, as Doug Ford says he wants to scrap the mandatory 14-day quarantine period.

The announcement came during his daily briefing on Monday afternoon.

Instead of the current two-week mandatory quarantine, Ford wants international travelers to undergo rapid testing.

I want to start getting people tested as they’re coming off [the plane] rather than isolating for 14 days.

“Let’s get them tested immediately when they come off the plane and test them again five or six days later,” the premier continued.

Ford says he needs help from Trudeau’s government to make this happen, but if push comes to shove, Ontario will “go it at it alone.”

“I need the federal government’s help on this and if they don’t want to do it, then we’ll go at it alone even though it’s not our jurisdiction.”

At the end of October, Ford announced that rapid testing would soon become widely available in Ontario.

Although the first batch of rapid tests will go to priority settings, the premier has said it won’t be long until they can distribute the tests across the province.
