Pepen’arte Collective, on tour in Chiapas

After its success in Tuxtla Gutiérrez, the promoters of reading and selling books at low cost will visit other important cities of the entity

Because “the ability and taste for reading gives access to what has already been discovered by others”, groups in Chiapas seek to bridge the educational gap by promoting reading with texts of all tastes.

Pepen’arte is a group of people who sell books and take cultural projects to different parts of the country, including the sale of used books, but in good condition and at affordable prices.

Reading population decreases in 2020

The National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi) in its report on the Module on Reading, announces that, until February 2020, of the literate population aged 18 and over, four out of 10 people declared that they read at least one book in the last 12 months, which represents a decrease of almost 5 percent if compared to 2016 where 45.9 percent of the population of 18 years and over literate considered themselves a reader, but in 2020 the record has decreased to 41.1 percent.

The main reasons for the literate population aged 18 and over who stated that they did not read some type of material considered by Molec was lack of time and interest.
