The problem would be that if non-essential businesses are opened and tourist activity is reactivated, the health system would be put at risk, David González Torrentera warned

Mazatlan, Sinaloa.- The Secretary of Economic Development, Tourism, and Fisheries in the Municipality, David González Torrentera, stated that in Mazatlán there is a well-defined plan and strategy for the reactivation of the economy, but it cannot yet be implemented because the spread of the COVID-19 virus has not yet fallen.

And, apart from that, the problem would be that if non-essential businesses are opened and tourist activity is reactivated, the health system would be put at risk because contagions would grow exponentially and that far from helping, would bring more repercussions.

“The issue here is to reduce the intensity of infections because we cannot reactivate the different sectors and run the risk that, by itself, we are having a substantial increase in infections, at the time of giving the indication to open the sectors we would be running the I risk the contagion issue a lot, ”he said.

The local official clarified that for now, the indications are to continue only with the essential activities in operation until the color changes red, at the traffic light of the Ministry of Health.

“Soon, until new indications is to continue maintaining the journey of healthy distance, continue to keep only the essential activities in operation waiting for the issue of contagions to begin to gradually cede, and defining one running in which we are participating as a municipality to ask that tourism be considered an essential activity, “he said.

González Torrentera said that most of the lodging centers, restaurants, and some businesses already have the protocols and the health certificate so that they can operate when the contagion curve allows it.

However, there are still no dates for the reopening of hotels, non-essential businesses or beaches.
