The Central de Abastos of the city of Oaxaca records a strong fire on Wednesday night, which is already attended by firefighters and emergency services.
The first reports indicate that the incident would have started around 20:00 in the crafts area; then it spread to other commercial premises.
“We work in a coordinated manner to put down the fire at the Central de Abasto and attend to the affected population,” civil protection tweeted before 22:00.
The authorities insisted the tenants to move away from the place; however, some of them decided to save part of their merchandise.
The fire is especially sensitive, since it occurs in the middle of the Covid-19 epidemic, which has caused sales to collapse nationwide.
Another point to consider is that the Central de Abastos is considered the largest shopping center in the state.
